Optimizing For Bing Could Gain You 13% More Revenue

One-third of your search revenue should be coming from Bing-powered traffic. Bing and Yahoo! make up a quarter of search traffic, and click on ads more than Googlers. If you're not seeing a large chunk of valuable traffic from Bing and Yahoo!, you're missing out on lots of ad revenue - on average, non-Bing-optimized Chitika publishers are missing out on a 13% boost in revenue, 9.4% boost in traffic.

So, what's to be done? A few tips to check on your Bing-ability:

  1. In your robots.txt file, make sure the Bing spider is allowed to see your site (yes, we've seen sites that only allow Google to index them)
  2. Compare how many of your pages are indexed in Bing and Google, by searching site:yourwebsite.com in each engine
  3. Use what Microsoft gives you. If you're not already using Bing's webmaster tools, you should be
  4. If you use AdWords to generate traffic, make sure you're also using Microsoft's AdCenter

The bottom line is that you need your website open to Bing. Google remains the dominant search engine, but you need to start paying attention to Bingahoo.
